Fulfillment Integration Reenginering

After targeting the residential market and launching new products Tele2 Spain faced a big increase in sales. Optare Solutions was asked to provide a solution to increase the throughput of the order handling system.

The main technical improvement of the reengineering was to change from a CORBA based architecture, difficult to scale up and to evolve, to a integration processes based one. A new MetaSolv’s XML API and integration components deployed on an Java EE application server substituted the CORBA standalone connectors.

To boost throughput 15x in addition to the change from CORBA to Java EE, the common integration architecture was modified optimizing parallel processing, removing exclusive accesses to other systems and making most of the servers.

As a consequence of these actions the system is now based on an application server cluster (all nodes active). Moving to a cluster setup also solved the problem of escalating the system to future demands, simply adding new low cost servers to the cluster, and reduced the cost of fault tolerance.
